Asylum: A Long and Painful Process – Community Photography Exhibition

Our dedicated Walking With team has been hard at work setting up a powerful new community photography exhibition at Whitley Bay Library.

Titled “Asylum: A Long and Painful Process,” the exhibition shares real stories and portraits captured by photographer Sadia Sikandar, in partnership with the Walking With Community Group. Through moving images and first-hand experiences, it shines a light on the long and often difficult journey that asylum seekers face while trying to find safety and rebuild their lives in the UK.

The exhibition offers visitors a chance to learn more about what it means to seek asylum – the uncertainty, the waiting, and the hope that drives people forward. It reminds us how important community support and funding for asylum seeker projects are in helping individuals and families integrate, access essential services, and feel truly welcomed.

You can view the exhibition free of charge:

  • North Shields Community Hub and Library: 1–26 September
Northumberland Square, North Shields, NE30 1QU
  • Whitley Bay Community Hub and Library: 29 September – 25 October
York Road, Whitley Bay, NE26 1AB

We encourage everyone in North Tyneside to come along, explore these powerful stories, and show your support for local asylum seekers and refugees.

At Walking With, we rely on generous donations and community funding to continue offering essential support, advice, and friendship to people seeking sanctuary. Your visit and your voice make a real difference.
